I do not have much to add that has not already been said! For years I had the basic Presto hot air poppers and it worked very well. When that popper finally died after many many years of service, my husband wanted one of these nostalgic ones for looks. My son and I tried it out this evening and I was so dissapointed. There was barely enough popcorn for the two of us, partly due to the small capacity, and partly due to the large amount of unpopped kernels. I did not want to wait the required 15 minutes to pop another batch. I should have packed it back up and taken it back as soon as I read that in the manual, but thought it would surely pop enough for our small family. I was wrong!!! The reviewer who thought the kernels tasted stale was right on the money. I used a brand new container of Orville Redenbacher kernels, so I know it had to be the popper and not the corn! As others mentioned despite the giant bowl I had underneath kernels were flying everywhere. Needless to say this was twice the price of the old faithful Presto. I plan to take it back as it is basically useless. I have never reviewed a product good or bad before, but am so tired of buying things that don’t work right, that I had to add my voice to the chorus. Do not buy this!!

I was so excited to find this adorable popcorn popper and it was red to match my kitchen. I unpacked the unit, placed it in an honorable corner on my counter top and couldn’t wait to savor the magnificent popcorn. I felt like the little boy and his Red Rider BB gun at Christmas. I read all the directions. I carefully measured the popcorn leveling the cap as stated in the directions. I called my husband in to watch the performance and boy did it perform! Hot unpopped kernels went all over the place. The popped corn bounced out of the bowl and onto the counter and floor. You couldn’t get close to the unit to turn it off because of the hot kernels. Less than half of the corn popped. I couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. It was like Jane Fonda at the copier in 9 To 5. There is a reason the instructions say to stand back at least 36″ and they mean it. Needless to say, I put it back in the box and returned it for the old dependable Presto corn popper. Recommended for entertainment and massive cleanup, not popcorn.

I got this for Christmas and was excited about using it for the first time. I read the instructions thoroughly and followed them to a T. This machine started shooting un-popped kernels out the vents on the sides and front beside the actual shoot. I would say about one third of the kernels popped and that’s being generous. But what was really great was that some of the un-popped kernels started popping while they were in the bowl and that would throw the few popped ones out onto the floor which made the whole experience hilarious. I cleaned everything up and did not tell my wife about how it popped, I let her experience it for her self. This gave me even more amusement, but I fear not enough to keep it though.
As some others have said, it really is amazing that they sell this thing as a popcorn maker and not as a novelty joke.

I really like popcorn. I was totally psyched to use this popper, and the fact that it air-popped made me love it more. It’s easy to use and easy to clean. However, from the first use the popcorn went flying everywhere! I placed a good-sized bowl underneath the slide/opening shoot and it caught about 3/4 of the popcorn. The second time, I balanced a very tall popcorn bucket underneath the shoot and still, popcorn and unpopped kernels were flying everywhere. There are a lot more unpopped kernels being thrown than actual popcorn, which is a pain to find and clean up and to get hit with. After the money I spent, I won’t give it up, but I think this is the most disappointing thing I bought all year. The popcorn that does land in the bowl is good, I think it has a slight staleness to it, but my friends think it tastes especially fresh. Maybe I’m a little bitter by the time I get to eating it. Also, on the second use, the machine just suddenly stopped. I wasn’t sure if it overheated or what (the popper gets extremely hot) but it did begin working again.
I bought this trying to save money and calories versus the microwave kind. I think I might keep an Orville bag of Natural around just in case.

Bought this model at a brick & mortar retailer before seeing all the negative reviews here on Amazon– won’t do THAT again!! Never got a chance to plug the popper in: As the instructions directed, I was wiping it off before using it for the first time, and the red paint started to come off!! Kept rubbing, kept getting paint on my damp paper towel! Put it right back in the box and returned it to the store.

this is a great little machine cooks about a half a cup at a time but cooks quick for the money this is a great buy and a great addition to your media or family room

Had this upright popcorn maker since Christmas.Makes great popcorn.Kids love it. Only draw back………..Some kernals do not pop due to the fact that one end of the popper stays open, and throws out the kernals.Great buy for the money.

when our maker arrived it was in perfect condition but it was a real pain to biuld the directions are not clear and it is very hard to understand them but other than that we love it and it makes really good popcorn and it is really easy and quik cleanup there are no flaws and it is really the best popcorn we have ever had!

My 10 year old daughter always wanted a popcorn machine and Santa found this on Amazon. The price is better than other sites and with hassle free returns, tax free, free shipping…This is an excellent deal($200). It does really make “Theater Style” popcorn. I would suggest the 4 ounce pre-packaged popcorn for kids/teens to use it (under adult supervision)….Case (24) of 4 Ounce Great Northern Popcorn Portion Packs.
The delivery was fast and the large box was in prefect condition from UPS shipping. I saw that other reviewers said it was damaged or missing parts, but mine was not. The assembly was not that difficult(about 1 hour) and the instructions were easy to follow. The cart is basically all you need to assemble.
The only concern that I have is that the popper unit(top part) is not permanently attached (attached by two side lathes) to the cart (for reasons of easy removal from the cart) and you must be very careful when you roll the machine. I almost dropped the popper unit while rolling it to another room in the house. Be cautious when you have to move it or simply take the top popper unit off and carry it. Do not allow children to roll it or it may topple over or fall off.
The entire unit looks great. Bright red and all metal. The cart has a nice storage cabinet for your salts, seasonings, scooper, un-popped corn. Popping is very easy as long as you follow directions. The first batch we made turned out perfect. It uses up to 4 ounces of un-popped corn and that provides a family of four with plenty of popcorn. It only takes 3-4 minutes to warm up the popper and about the same to pop it(very fast popping). We really enjoy this Popcorn Machine….Take a look at the photo on this site of the machine.
HELPFUL HINT-TURN ON THE HEATING LAMP ABOUT 30 -45 MINUTES BEFORE YOU START POPPING. It helps keep the popcorn warm.

I could not be more disappointed than I am with this popcorn machine, and wish I would have read the reviews prior to purchasing. I will be cleaning it up and taking it back to Target trying to get my money back.
After reading all of the reviews it looks like I could have spent twenty dollars on the Presto Air popper and been more satisfied with the quality of popcorn than this. I honestly get better corn just popping corn in a saucepan on the stove.
There is one good quality about this machine:
1. It looks cool.
That’s about it. I was thinking it would add a little something cool to the movie night experience at home and make good kettle corn as well. Well, I can’t say how dead wrong I was. In fact, this is the first review I have ever posted about a product, but I felt compelled to do so with this piece. I can’t believe I spent the amount I did on this thing.
Here are all of the bad qualities:
1. I’ve popped four batches of corn in this thing and have about a
half a cup of kernels on the bottom that were unpopped. 1/2 cup
at least.
2. Something very strange, but the corn isn’t even warm after it
just gets done popping. Not even kidding. I don’t know if it has
something to do with the amount of air space in the machine when
the corn comes out of the kettle or what. The corn is warm. I’ve
noticed this on every batch and I’ve taken the popcorn out
immediately after popping. It’s not hot nice airy popcorn. It
tastes stale and chewy.
3. When the corn is popping, the kettle bobs away from the gear. I
think this probably also adds the the amount of lost kurnels.
4. It is hard to even get the popcorn out without spilling some. It
doesn’t come with a scooper which would make it easier and maybe
I’m griping about this one a little over the top, but you can’t
fit a bowl in it to fill your bowl up. You either have to use
the supplied 1/3 cup scooper in order to scoop several scoops
into your bowl, use your hands several times or buy a scooper if
you don’t have one already. It just kind of adds to a pain to get
your popcorn instead of ease.
5. Hard to clean. In order to clean it, you have to unscrew the
handle on the right hand side of the machine, and lift the kettle
out. The lid is screwed on with three phillips head screws which
you have to take off if you want to really clean it. Plus the oil
must fly out of the kettle at the same rate as the kernels
because after four batches there is oil dropplets everywhere on
the inside of the plexiglass and all over the kettle.
My advice. Run away fast. This thing looks cool, and it does pop corn. but it doesn’t do it efficiently, or well at all. And the view that I now hold of this machine is that it is a two foot tall, one hundred dollar knick knack. If Target won’t let me return it, I’m putting it on Ebay for sure. Hopefully I can get at least twenty bucks for it so I can get a Presto Air Popper. Don’t waste your money.

Junk, pure and simple. Flawed design. Waste of money even if it only cost $5 instead of $100.

I am shocked to hear the bad reveiws for this machine. It works great! I run batch after batch on football Sundays and have not had a problem all year. It’s quick and easy to make popcorn and easy to clean, I just wipe out the kettle with a paper towel after each use and I’m good to go. My only complaint would be that it doesn’t have a heating element under the floor of the unit to keep the popcorn warm. But that is minor. I would recommend this unit to anybody who likes popcorn.

I bought this product to give to my husband for Christmas. He’d been wanting one for the last couple of years so he was very happy to say the least. It is completely as described and arrived promptly and in excellent condition. We tried it out this morning and the pop corn is wonderful tasting. I’m very happy to report that it does indeed remind you of the corn in theaters. anyone interested in this machine, don’t hesitate, you can’t go wrong.

I bought this recently for hosting movie nights at my home (with 10-12 guests). I decided to spend a “little” extra for an American made product and couldn’t be happier. It’s built like a tank, easy to use (remember- the popping kettle is hot!), has a fairly quiet motor when running, and simple to clean.
It is well worth the price difference from imported poppers- for example, the Waring popper that can be seen at major retailers is much smaller and looks like an easy bake oven when comparing materials and construction. The Paragon popper could almost be described as a “saleman sample” size of a commercial machine- which is really is. I ordered it on a Monday (refurbished, factory direct) and received it Wednesday, shipping from Iowa to Ohio!
I’m now experimenting with various oil combinations Canola/corn, etc. for the best taste. The combination packages of oil/popcorn/salt/flavoring taste too much like what you get in theaters!

Product was as advertised, came very quickly, would buy from this vendor again. Thanks!

We bought one and it lasted just over 3 months. The part where you add the popcorn didn’t warm up enough to pop the popcorn. We were given one as a gift. It did the same thing. We didn’t over use it. Only a couple of times a week. When I emailed the company, they never responded. Don’t buy this product. It only has a short warranty.

My son has been begging for this for 2 years. I finally got it for him for his 6th birthday. It was a pain to put together, but made really wonderful popcorn. It made a lot more than I expected. Just the right amount for my twins. I haven’t had any problem with uncooked kernals flying out. It has turned out to be everything my son hoped it would be, and that is all that matters.
17 Andrew
we really like this item, however the pin on the top of the door was broken off.

Granted it may be the Orvil Redenwhozit popcorn, but less then 20% of anything I put in this machine actually pops. I did give it one star ’cause it’s kinda cute… I still have to buy a popcorn popper. It ain’t 60 bucks cute.
